Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (English Standard Version)
Confession. This past year, my family and I, have been through one of the worse years, of my entire life. I will spare you the details, for now, especially if you’ve just come over to read this blog post, just to see my opinion of this movie, Unstoppable by Kirk Cameron, or to enter to win your own copy of this DVD. But when making the decision to review this movie or not, the subtitle, “Where Is God In The Midst of Tragedy and Suffering?” really jumped out at me. That was definitely something I questioned at times.
Throughout this last year the verse that has really helped me through is Romans 8:28. Through all the struggle and unknown, I had to remind myself that God is working this all together for good. That it’s all for His purpose and not for my own happiness. My job was just to trust Him even when I felt uncomfortable.
Through prayer and Bible study I’ve found that God does have a bigger purpose for all of this. He is anointing and strengthening me for the task He has planned ahead. This is the same for everyone. It even started way back with Adam and Eve. This is why Kirk goes on to explain how sin entered the world… through Adam’s rebellion. It was a very cool dramatization of Bible events, from the book of Genesis.
“I have hope that every tragedy in my life, and in yours, every future tragedy, and every future pain and struggle, and suffering, and death, God can and will use those things for His greater glory and for our good. Because that’s what He’s been doing all along. Through all of the pain and the suffering and the grief, God is working out this same unstoppable purpose for you. He’s forming in you, the character needed, for the assignment He has for you.” – Kirk Cameron, Unstoppable Movie
I love the feeling of peace that comes from knowing all that we’ve been through and all that we continue to go through is all for my good. It’s making me stronger as well as my relationship with Him. In the coming months, you will hear more about how God is using my details to help others. The next steps of my life. My legacy. And as much as sharing my story is scary… I know it’s all for a greater purpose. An unstoppable purpose. This DVD is one of the many things I’ve seen or read, recently, that has confirmed that there is a reason for all of this bad in our world. Even in my little world.
Inspired by the death of Cameron’s close friend who succumbed to cancer at the age of 15, Kirk Cameron takes viewers on an inspiring and hope-filled visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: “Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?”
Going back to the beginning—literally—Kirk investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. UNSTOPPABLE will prompt audiences to consider the role that pain and suffering has in our lives, as they affirm their personal views on faith, and encourage conversation starters about God, suffering, and hope.
In theaters for only two weeknights (Sept 24th and Oct 3th, 2013), UNSTOPPABLE: A Live Event with Kirk Cameron sold a staggering 260,000 tickets and reached a theatrical gross of over $3.2 million dollars. In just two nights this independent project sent a loud message – audiences want thought-provoking and meaningful entertainment.
Kirk Cameron is best known for his memorable role as “Mike Seaver,” a cultural icon of the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool glasses, and wisecracking comebacks. More recently he enjoyed much success with the No. 1 grossing inspirational film of 2008, Fireproof, and his recent documentary, Monumental. Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, were on-screen sweethearts during their Growing Pains years and are the founders of Camp Firefly, where terminally and seriously ill children and their families are provided an all-expense paid retreat (www.CampFirefly.com). Together, Kirk and Chelsea live in California with their six children.
